Second day of the Formula Renault 3.5 collective test
After a successful test last week in Barcelona, America’s F1 potential, Alexander Rossi, joined World Series by Renault for the next round of post-season testing at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain. Rossi, with ISR Racing, continued clocking laps at the top of the leader board recording the fastest time on the second day of the Formula Renault 3.5 collective test with a 1:42.798.
Having run with the Czech team ISR in 2009 for the International Formula Masters Series, this year’s Monaco Grand Prix and the Barcelona test, Rossi found the team to be a great fit once again in Aragon. Competing in the first two days of the three day test, Rossi’s times were consistently in the top three whether running on old or new Michelin tires despite never having been to the circuit previously.
“We had two very successful tests with Alexander, in Barcelona and now here at Aragon, placing either first or second at both,” ISR Owner, Igor Salaquarda commented. “Alexander is a highly skilled driver and delivers precise feedback. We would be delighted if we could arrange for him to race for us in 2011.”
Rossi has yet to announce his plans for 2011 but is already being observed closely by a number of different teams and organizations, in his pursuit to become the next American in Formula 1.
“Both tests went fantastic with ISR in Spain”, commented Rossi. “I’m very comfortable at ISR, the moral and work ethic of the team is excellent. The communication with my engineer Peter Barry is seamless. ISR have a great base line to work with, each time I run out we are improving the car and my own performance. The Spain tests were really a great experience and we were always out front. I look forward to the next couple of weeks as we sort out 2011.”
With a 30 per cent winning percentage, Rossi won both the Formula BMW Americas and World Championships before moving full-time to Europe in 2009. He won Rookie of the Year in International Formula Masters with ISR then completed a test with the BMW Sauber F1 team, earning his F1 Super License. In 2010, Rossi scored two wins and four podium finishes in the inaugural GP3 series, helping ART Grand Prix to the Team championship.
